PC tennis held their first match this season to Albia on April 3, but with the weather it was cancelled. The Eagles earned their win, however, and won all the matches in their first home meet against Centerville on April 4.
The varsity team consists of 10 players, and four of whom are returning varsity members: seniors Andrea Carballo and Sophie Vander Molen, and juniors Erica Van Soelen and Cassidy Bush. Varsity tennis coach Danielle Stubbs has big expectations for her returning players. “All of them will be great leaders for our team this year,” she said.
Stubbs also anticipates a good year for the six new players. “With so many new girls on varsity, I expect to see a lot of growth within our team as the season progresses,” said Stubbs.
Tennis has been more than a sport to some of the veteran players. “Tennis has brought my siblings and I so much closer by having us play against each other and challenging each other to make us all better,” said Bush.
Carballo has had a similar family bonding experience. “I have played for around 8 years,” she said. “It’s been a connecting factor between me and my dad. We are able to bond over tennis and practice together.”
The next tennis home meet will be held against Oskaloosa on April 13.
