The PC football team started off this season with a bang. With a huge 24-22 win over second ranked in 2A PCM, the Eagles are in good shape heading into the rest of the season.
“Beating PCM was a huge win. It was great to have everyone rally around each other and pull off the big win. We got our season off to a good start,” said senior Hayden Vroom, one of the captains on this year’s team. The following weeks, the Eagles soundly defeated Albia (49-0), Des Moines Christian (62-7), and Interstate 35 (45-10). Due to these wins, the Eagles are currently 4th in 1A.
Though graduating many impactful seniors this spring, almost 60 boys are out for football at PC this season. There are ten seniors on this year’s squad, with the three team captains being Hayden Vroom, Alex Huisman, and Treven Caldwell. Many spots are being filled by new players this year, and Vroom believes this team can “perform at just as high, if not, a higher level” than last year’s team, due to hard work and commitment. “Inexperience is probably our greatest weakness to be honest. Our strengths include speed, and a incredibly strong offensive line,” said senior captain Alex Huisman.
Head coach Richard Kacmarynski agrees. “Our strengths include being strong on the O-line and D-line, and we have speed in the skill spots,” said Kacmarynski. With this being said, coach Kacmarynski believes working on their passing game and fundamentals at all levels will be important heading into the rest of the season.
“Our main focus this year is to see what God can do with a group of guys that are sold out for Him and for each other,” said Kacmarynski. The Eagles look to continue to improve and win some games during the rest of the season. With all of this being said, every boy wearing that maroon and gold jersey has one thing in mind, the dome.
