The varsity bowling team started its season at the Newton Invitational where both the boys and the girls finished 5th. This year 11 boys and 11 girls are on the bowling team. Seniors Alex Veenstra, Amanda Harrill, Roseanne Meinders, and Jordan Van Mannen are all returning letter winners.

Coach Rod Blunck believes the team’s practices are off to a good start. “So far, we’ve been doing pretty well,” said Blunck. “I’ve seen some improvement over last season already.”

Blunck just hopes that the students will do the best they can during meets. He believes that the hard work during practice will translate to success during the meets. “All the bowlers seem to be pretty focused during practice,” said Blunck. “That’s going to work in their favor when they get into a competition.”

A few difficulties have also arisen this year. One challenge was that many students signed up to join the team, but later decided against it. Some performance factors have also affected the team’s potential. “Our biggest challenge will be converting spares, but I think that’s an issue that all bowlers deal with at times,” said Blunck. “We’ll keep working on it though and I know we’ll get better.”
