Young basketball team starts off season with losses

Junior Jake Pringle puts up a 3 point shot against PCM.

The PC boys basketball team started off the season with a couple of losses: a close loss to ADM 65-63 on November 28, followed by a loss to the Oskaloosa Indians 64-46 on December 1. On December 4, they lost another close one to PCM 63-57.

The 17 boys on the basketball team this year include three seniors who are letterwinners. The young PC team also has six juniors, with sophomores rounding out the the rest of the roster. “Even though, we are inexperienced, I think we have some depth on our team, which will help us out,” said head coach Larry Hessing.

The Eagle’s play in the Little Hawkeye Conference, which is full of tough schools. “Our conference is really competitive,” said Hessing. “Osky and Norwalk have a lot of people back from last year, so they are probably the favorites. However, just like us, many teams also have many new players. We plan to compete this year.”

Senior captain Treven Cadwell agreed. “It’s going to be tough. They have a lot of good athletes, and are bigger schools than us. We’re going to have to come to play for sure,” he said.

The Eagles will play Pella tonight, Knoxville on December 11, Norwalk on December 15, and Indianola on December 19. Ballard on December 21 will be their final game before a short Christmas break.
