Homecoming, the week of games, activites, dressing up, excitement and school spirit is coming right around the corner. Activities start right away on Monday, January 29, with dress up days throughout the week. Monday’s theme is “come as you are,” where everyone shows up to school in the morning dressed as they were from the night before. Tuesday’s thems is “tacky tourists,” Wednesday “super villains vs. superhero,” Thursday is “throwback Thursday,” and the last theme, “maroon and white” will finish up the week on Friday.
There are also many other ways for students to get involved. Monday night features three powder puff football games taking place at the Pella Rec Center. Tuesday will be the voting for the Homecoming King and Queen. This year’s nominations, selected by the seniors, are Sophie Howerzyl. Erica Van Soelen, Makenna Van Dyke, Mara Juffer, Kandace Hofman, Alex Huisman, Sam Brouwer, Hayden Vroom, Ryan Van Gilst, and Brendan Six.
Wednesday and Thursday evenings consists of students’ work time for creating the commons corner decorations. This year’s themes are based on Disney movies. Freshmen will be creating a corner piece for Mulan, sophomores have Moana, juniors are taking Tangled, and the seniors will have Frozen. The winners for best corner decorations will be announced on Friday.
Wrapping up the week on Friday comes the most exciting day of them all, beginning in the morning with maroon and white day, and then class games and lip syncs to follow in the gym during the afternoon. The class with the most school spirit and games won by the end of the week will be presented the first place prize. Then ending the night will be basketball games against the Grinnell Tigers. Go Eagles!
