Sixty-eight students will travel to Minneapolis and visit Bethel University for the upcoming band trip April 11-13. Band director Shannon Dykstra chose this location for the purpose of connecting with a Christian college and its band program.
“I choose a city with a Christian college so our students can visit a Christian college campus and experience the band department there so that they may consider continuing to play their instrument in college and beyond!” said Dykstra.
The musicians will practice their instruments with college students during clinics and will perform a combined concert Friday evening. “The clinic is just for PC band, which is exciting for us as our students will have the clinics identifying specific areas for improvement. The concert is Pella Christian and Bethel University bands,” said Dykstra. “We will each play several pieces and combine for the last piece.”
Connecting through Christ and music is an important part of the trip, but the musicians will also participate in an Escape Room, go bowling, and tour the Mall of America. “I am most looking forward to being able to connect with other Christian Band students at Bethel University and to experience a new band program,” said sophomore percussionist Tessa Brouwer. “I also enjoy doing escape rooms, so doing one of those while we are in Minneapolis is a fun bonus too.”
This will be the band’s first trip to Minneapolis. In the past, trips have been to Dordt College in Sioux Center and Trinity College in Chicago.
