Oklahoma!, performed this fall at PC, has received eight awards from the Iowa High School Musical Theatre Awards program.  Senior Tyler Egesdal and juniors Jocelyn Gritters, Halie Vermillion, and Peter Larson received recognition for their lead roles in the musical. PC was also recognized for Outstanding Overall Technical and Creative Achievement. Egesdal and Gritters were also nominated to audition as Iowa representatives for Nationals in New York City.

Egesdal is honored to be included in this opportunity. “I am deeply honored to receive this award and be in a medley with the best actors and actresses of the state of Iowa,” he said. “It’s something I have dreamed about since sophomore year, so I guess you could say this award is a dream come true.”

The tech team’s dedication played a massive role in the making of the production, which makes receiving this award even more rewarding. “This award shows us that all the creativity, time, and work we put into Oklahoma! paid off. It was fun to see lights and sound come to life as the shows got closer, and it is nice to know that the work we did truly made the show stand out,” said senior Brianna Jansen.

The Iowa High School Musical Theatre Awards takes place to support local high school musical theatre programs.  Awards are presented every June at the Des Moines Performing Arts Civic Center. According to the IHSMTA website, “a panel of performing arts educators and professionals (adjudicators) attend each school’s musical and provides feedback on everything from individual actors’ performances, to the orchestra, set, lighting, costumes and more. Teachers and students use these insights to make their next show even stronger.”
