The 2016 clay target team accomplished many things in their postseason this past summer. Many students participated in either state, nationals or both.
According to coach Keith Van Donselaar, “To qualify for State and Nationals an athlete needs to participate in at least four SCTP sanctioned tournaments in at least two different ranges.”
The PC team took fifth in the State Skeet Championships in June. “This is the highest any PC squad has placed in state competition which is an accomplishment made more significant with this being our first year in skeet competition,” said Van Donselaar.
Senior Emma Van Donselaar placed second taking home the silver medal in Varsity Ladies at State Skeet Championships and was named to the Iowa All State Skeet team, placing in the top fifty in both trap and skeet at Nationals.
Five varsity shooters participated at Nationals in July. The team broke a school record for total squad scores in Trap with a total team score of 898 out of 1000 targets. Junior Ethan Van Zee and graduate Kyle Van Kooten shot 25/25 and 97/100, respectively.
