This year Pella Christian will be sending four student athletes to participate in wrestling at Pella High, and one to Osky to compete in swimming.
This year’s wrestlers are freshmen Peyton Ritzert and Tobey Steen, sophomore Darian Tremmel, and junior Ethan Milligan. Tremmel and Ritzert both enjoy wrestling because it is a physically demanding sport, and Milligan likes the independence of the sport, and how he has to make split-second decisions while competing. All of the athletes recognize that there will be lots of challenges during practices and at their meets, but one that stands out to them is mental toughness. “You have to have mental toughness to wrestle. I have done all the other sports and not one has been so physically and mentally hard,” said Milligan.
Competing in swimming with the Oskaloosa team is junior Carson Breon. Breon started swimming competitively when he was five or six years old, and has never looked back. He thanks his parents and older sister Lindsay for getting him interested. He first joined the swim team because Lindsay was on it as well, and his parents have always wanted him to find what he loved and stick with it, and swimming ended up being one of those things. “My favorite part is the satisfaction of finishing a race with new better times and the realization of all the practice and hard work put into technique and speed every day.” says Breon.
