Senior Ellie Brouwer has taken on the responsibility of designing everything creative for the upcoming musical, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, at Pella Christian High School, which will be performed on October 29-31, 2020.
This is her way of contributing. “I really enjoy it, and I’ve always really liked theater, but I’ve been in volleyball, so I’ve never really gotten the chance to actually participate in theater,” said Brouwer.
Ellie is doing most of the artistic work by designing the performance posters, t-shirts, and the set, as well as painting. The computer is her forte. She begins on Adobe Illustrator to see how it will look, and then creates it in real life.
“What’s nice with the computer is there is a nice button I like to call “Control Z” which is undo, which you can do on the computer, but you cannot do in real life,” said Brouwer.
Brouwer enjoyed working by herself to create and sketch out the outline of the set, but appreciated all the help with painting. Designing the poster and t-shirts came easily because she has had a lot of involvement with that previously.
This was her first experience dreaming up and constructing the set, and she was very nervous. “It’s big, everybody sees it,” said Brouwer.
