This year at Pella Christian the breakfast and Bible study group “Caleb Crew” has amassed a big body of about 50 students this past week. The head of the group, Bonnie Van Wyngarden, said, “Attendance has been better this year, we’ve had a lot of boys from the freshman and sophomore classes, which I think is fabulous.”
Students enjoy coming to Caleb Crew for the tasty breakfast and to enjoy time with students they may not interact with otherwise.
“It’s kind of fun because I have come since I was a freshman and it’s cool to lead the kids,” Senior Caden Van Dyke said. Students of all grades are encouraged to come to get familiar with older and younger students.
“I go because it’s fun to talk and do devotions with my friends, and I get to know some freshman and upperclassmen better. And of course Bonnie and her cinnamon rolls make it even better!” said Sophomore Luke Nikkel.
The students enjoy cinnamon buns for the first half and then gather into their groups for the second half.
Selected by Bonnie, the lessons help the students get closer to God. The lessons she uses are written by Keith Stulp which cover a variety of topics. They are short enough to fit in the time span and are easily led by seniors.
Caleb Crew is hoping to continue through the school year and is expected to keep growing.
