Big Acai takes on Pella

Pella’s newest hot spot, Big Acai, is quickly becoming a favorite amongst students at Pella Christian. From dairy-free smoothies to organic sorbet bowls, there is a healthy and delicious treat for everyone to enjoy.

Amber Lyle, the owner of Big Acai, celebrated the opening of the smoothie bar this past summer. However, a lot went on behind the scenes from the time that Lyle first had the idea to franchise Big Acai to its opening day.

“I franchised off of Big Acai in Valley Junction West Des Moines so it wasn’t like starting a new business from nothing.  They already had a streamlined system of how the business was to be run,” said Lyle.

However, the franchise wasn’t the only thing Lyle needed in order to get her business up and running. She also needed to get permission from the city of Pella, and, of course, a location.

Lyle knew from the beginning that Pella would fall in love with Big Acai because of how unique it is. And, without any competition, the cafe has won over the hearts of countless loyal customers.

“My favorite thing about Big Acai is that there are endless combinations. There are so many toppings and bases that I’m able to have something different every time,” said senior Audrey Oosterheert.

To add to the excitement, students and staff at Pella Christian are offered one free topping every Friday with a school ID. Online ordering is also now available for customers through bigacaibowl.com. Your order will be ready in less than 15 minutes, and you will receive a text when your order is available for pick up.
