Four students from Pella Christian will go to Pella High to wrestle in the 2020-2021 season.
Senior Ethan Milligan, and sophomores Peyton Ritzert, Austin Van Soelen, and Tobey Steen will continue their wrestling careers with the Dutch. Van Soelen and Steen will continue wrestling at the JV level. Milligan and Ritzert will pursue their varsity careers with their eyes set on the state tournament.
Milligan says, “I’m looking forward to wrestling different teams, and finish off my senior year by going to state.”
As with most activities in 2020, wrestling has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Pella wrestling team is following precautions to keep in the wrestling room.
Practice and meets will look a little different in 2020. Wrestlers will take a sanitization break every 15 minutes during practice. Wrestlers must bring their own water bottle to practice and meets. Masks are to be worn on the bus and in between competition.
Even in this uncertain season, Pella wrestling has a full schedule in 2020. The Dutch took the mat for the first time this season on Tuesday, December 1.
Van Soelen says, “I’m more ready this year than ever.”
The first week was a full slate for wrestlers with 3 competitions in the first week. The Dutch are off to one of their best starts in years with a record of 8-3 in Duals.
