Marie Johnson, a junior, won second place in the national division for the North Dakota State University National Music Competition this spring.
She first was first interested in this competition when choir director Aaron Fitzgerald discussed it with students interested in majoring in music.
The requirements of the essay were that it had to be 1,000 words and pertaining to what she saw herself as a future music educator.
“I wrote about how my experience living in Niger and the strong music community I have always been a part of, both there and at PC,” Johnson said.
Johnson said how she was surprised and pleased to take second place in the competition.
She said, “I won $300 dollars and a classy green NDSU shirt.”
