Three straight wins propelled the PC girls team as their season began against #5 ranked Van Meter (56-43), Montezuma(48-43), A-D-M, Adel (53-38), Oskaloosa (63-44), and PCM (59-38). Small in numbers, but mighty, the girls team is ready to take on the remainder of the season under head coach Kevin Van Maanen.

“We are very athletic; we have good shooters and a nice balance of guards and post play. But we are also still learning as a team by playing together,” said Van Maanen. “We also are working on strengthening our defense. It takes experience to get there, but we’re working on it.”

Although there are only 9 girls, 8 are returning varsity members and, they work very well together.

“We really push each other to become the best we can be. We all realize each other’s strengths and weaknesses, so we make it all work,” said sophomore Mary Kate Bandstra. “Among us, there is always the desire to just play hard and crave to win. But, with only 9 girls, there is always a struggle to practice intensely when we can’t even play 5 vs. 5.”

The next home game will be held on January 6 at 6:15, so make sure you all come out and support.
