The 2016 Pella Christian has had a great season so far with their new dance coach and peer. Krista De Bruin graduated from Pella Community High and participated in several years of dance team throughout high school and Northwestern college. She eagerly waited for another job in Pella and jumped at the opportunity to work with PC’s Shine team. “After college, I knew I wanted to return to the Pella area, so when I heard about the coaching opening at Pella Christian I knew I had to apply,” said De Bruin.
De Bruin’s first year has been going great so far in the few weeks that drill team has been practicing and performing.“The girls are working so hard each practice and already showing great improvements,” De Bruin said.
The team has performed in two football halftime shows and are currently “dancing hard,” awaiting the Iowa State Dance Team Association competition that takes place at Wells Fargo in December.
In order to prepare for competitions and performances, the girls are expected to lift at least two times a week and practice their pom routines three times a week. “We have had a few challenges this year, but none we can’t handle,” said Abby Ambrosen.
With many students participating in other activities, finding the time can be difficult when they find themselves splitting practices in order to fulfill other responsibilities. “Everyone on the team is very busy with so many activities, and it is hard to fit drill team in our schedule,” said Ellie Natelborg.
